Conflicting release dates between major films frequently cause confusion and have an impact on box office results. A similar situation may arise with War 2 and Coolie. War 2, starring Jr. NTR and Hrithik Roshan, is officially set to release on this Independence Day, i.e. On August 14, 2025 with director Ayan Mukerji planning sufficient time for post production. However, recent reports from Chennai suggest that Superstar Rajinikanth’s Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, might also release on the same date.

The Independence Day weekend in 2025 is going to be up to be a historic one for Indian cinema, with two huge films possibly competing at the box office. Yash Raj Films highly anticipated action sequel War 2 starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR is expected to hit screens on August 14, 2025. And reports suggest that Rajinikanth’s action thriller Coolie directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, may also be released within the same day.
Lokesh Kanagaraj’s big-budget standalone action drama film is almost finished, with 70% of the filming already completed. The final shoot is scheduled from January 13 to January 28. Recent reports indicate that it will now be released in August to coincide with the Independence Day celebration. If the claims are true, Coolie will face up against War 2, resulting in one of the largest box office confrontations in recent years.
Coolie’s stellar cast, including Nagarjuna, Upendra, Aamir Khan, and Shruti Haasan, and the buzz generated by its first look, it’s expected to perform strongly, especially in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka. However Coolie and War 2 makers yet to make an official announcement regarding the film’s theatrical release date..
