Malavika Mohanan, an actor who has worked in several Indian film industries, spoke out against the frequent body-shaming comments. She claimed that she is frequently told that she is either too thin or too fat. Malavika expressed her dissatisfaction with remarks that emphasized the South’s “navel obsession” and predilection for larger forms.
In an recent interview she shared about how South Indian Film Industry is obsessed with the navel. In the starting of her career she was surprised to see this as she was grown up in Mumbai. She said that the obsession for navel is real and with the people zooming in on actresses’ navel photos are also real. She said that as the cultural shift was very rapid she had to adjust to it.

Trolls for being Skinny:
Apart from this in the interview, she also said that she was trolled for being skinny and how she faced the body shaming when she entered the film industry. In the initial days, she faced many harsh criticisms, but as the days passed, her body naturally changed. But at the beginning of her career, she said she was very uncomfortable. Following that, she said that most of the South Indian audiences prefer curvy women rather than skinny heroines.
