Mohanlal’s Thudarum: Tharun Moorthy’s Thudarum movie is the 4th highest-grossing movie in Malayalam cinema and once again establishes Mohanlal as a box office hit. The film has taken audiences in by its fascinating storyline and performance and achieved a collection of ₹87.25 crore in mere 14 days.
Thudarum’s strong performance has seen it surpass Fahadh Faasil’s Aavesham (₹85.15 crore) and Prithviraj Sukumaran’s The Goat Life (₹85 crore), both of which had been widely discussed to be among the biggest hits in the industry this year. Despite their encouraging performances, Thudarum’s traditional storytelling and Mohanlal’s timelessness star power have given it a boost in terms of getting the people to the theatres.
From an opening of ₹5.25 crore, Thudarum saw a steady increase in collections over the opening weekend, with ₹8.6 crore on Saturday and ₹10.5 crore on Sunday. The first week closed with a whopping figure of ₹51.4 crore, followed by huge collections in the second week too, with a peak of ₹7.5 crore on Sunday.
Though most recent Malayalam movies have surpassed in action and spectacle, Thudarum is different because of its emotional depth and family appeal. It appeals to audiences of all ages, and hence it is not only a blockbuster, but a movie with long-term impact. Mohanlal’s charismatic performance has been the driving force in bringing in both his loyal fan base and new viewers as well.

At the rate at which it has grown, trade analysts predict Thudarum will soon surpass ₹100 crore, a milestone achieved only by very few Malayalam films. It is currently at the fourth spot, followed by 2018, L2: Empuraan, and Manjummel Boys, which hold the top three spots in the highest-grossing films in the industry’s history.
