The South actress Nayanthara is currently trending on social media after releasing her documentary film, which is titled Nayanthara: Beyond the Fairytale. As she released her new documentary film, controversies started surrounding her. She recently made headlines after writing an open letter to actor Dhanush.
Nayanthara disclosed many things about her personal life in her recently released documentary. Among the things she shared, her statement on why she changed her religion has grabbed attention. It is known to everyone that Nayanthara was born Christian but she converted to Hinduism. She revealed how she managed to put both religions in her wedding.
The actress also expressed her desire for a traditional Hindu wedding after converting from Christianity to Hinduism. She said, “Because I am a born Christian, my mom always wanted to see me in that Christian attire—the wedding gown kind of thing. But, since I have become a Hindu and we have to do a Hindu wedding, I just thought it should be like a beautiful mix of both a Hindu and a Christian wedding. So we kept it a Hindu wedding with an English touch.”
The actress’s original name was Diana Kurien. Later, she changed it into Nayanthara after she entered the film industry. In 2011, she changed her religion at an Arya Samaj Temple in Chennai.
Their wedding was originally scheduled to take place in the Tirupati temple, but due to logistical concerns, it was moved to the Sheraton Grand Chennai Resort and Spa in Mahabalipuram. Despite the major drastic change, they managed to arrange everything without any issues.
Addressing the possibility of that situation, she said, “I was quite unsure if we could pull it off by that time. To get it all together for a grand wedding in just 10 days, it all seemed quite impossible. There were about 7,000 people working overnight. On the wedding day, about 200 security personnel were hired for just manning the structure. Nobody’s phone was allowed at the venue.”
Nayanthara and Vignesh Shivan have been married since June 2022. They are parents to two children, Uyir and Ulagam.
