No Sequel for Minnal Murali: Part 2 Cancelled?

Minnal Murali is one of the Malayalam movies which is expected to have a sequel. However, Speculation is swirling online- including Weekend Blockbusters, about the film’s creators and producers being in a legal dispute that has led to Minnal Murali 2 being canceled. There is no direct confirmation; however, multiple inside sources are reporting that the project is indeed stuck in legal tension.

Legal Tangle Leading to Cancellation

In a post attributed to an insider at Weekend Blockbusters, the user characterized that the sequel is facing copyright infringement allegations from the filmmakers. The post reported that there is a rift that has developed between director Basil Joseph and producer Sophia Paul and hospitality between the creative and production teams has been lost.

Moreover, the post characterized the legal battle had been going on for approximately a year, ultimately shutting down all future development of the sequel.

This Has Brought A Stop To The Cinematic Universe Plan

The insider also pointed out that the conflict has dashed the team’s original plan to build the “Minnal Murali Cinematic Universe.” Said crossover cameos in upcoming projects such as Detective Ujjwalan and an untitled zombie film are also said to have been swept away by the conflict.

If true, this fallout has left fans disheartened, who believe that another superhero franchise in Malayalam Cinema has come up after the stupendous success of the first film on Netflix.

Studio Shifts Focus

With the sequel being all but canceled, the studio is focusing instead on new superhero characters. One such project led by Sandeep Pradeep is rumored to function as a soft relaunch for the superhero genre of the franchise.

At present, Minnal Murali 2 seems to be stuck in the storm of creative and legal disputes, leaving the fans hoping yet uncertain about the future of Kerala’s favorite homegrown superhero.
