Superstar Rajinikanth is currently filming his upcoming Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial action thriller Coolie, and recently announced that he is expected to join Jailer 2 shooting in March next year. Tamil film critic Manobala Vijayabalan revealed the exciting update on his social media accounts , that Rajinikanth-Nelson Dilipkumar movie will go on floors March 2025.

The hype for the sequel has been building for a time, and an official update is due soon. Jailer, starred Rajinikanth as a retired police officer enjoying a quiet life. However, his world is flipped upside down when his police officer son is kidnapped and assumed dead, propelling him on a frenzy of vengeance against those he suspects. While the film begins with a revenge story, it eventually shifts to a robbery story, with flashbacks to the retired cop’s earlier days.

Rajinikanth starrer Jailer was released theatrically on 10 August 2023 to positive reviews from critics and collect Rs 650 crores and became the highest-grossing Tamil film of 2023, sixth highest-grossing Indian film of 2023 and second highest-grossing Tamil film of all time. A sequel is in development. Jailer revolves around “Tiger” Muthuvel Pandian, a retired jailer, seeking to apprehend an eccentric idol smuggler Varman.

According to reports Rajinikanth received a salary of Rs 110 crore as an advance prior to the release.

Jailer, the action entertainer’s ensemble star cast includes Vinayakan, Ramya Krishnan, Tamannaah Bhatia, Vasanth Ravi, Mirnaa Menon, Yogi Babu, and others in key roles. The film also featured cameo performances from Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, and Jackie Shroff. Jailer is now streaming on Amazon Prime Video and Sun NXT. The upcoming sequel is expected to hit the silver screen in mid 2026 or early 2027.
