Director Karthik Subbaraj made an official announcement recently on his social media accounts. He took to his Twitter account and revealed the romantic action flick is set to release on May 1, 2025. Sharing the new poster, Karthik captioned, The One from May One!! #Retro in cinemas worldwide from May first 2025, 1/0/2025, love laughter war , the one may one.

Retro is being funded by Suriya himself under the company 2D Entertainment with director Karthik Subbaraj under the banner of Stone Bench Films , is a romantic drama with action aspects. It stars Pooja Hegde as the female lead, who has taken on a new persona for her first collaboration with Suriya. In addition to Suriya and Pooja, the film has major performances by Jayaram, Joju George, Karunakaran, Nassar, Prakash Raj, Sujith Shankar, Prem Kumar, and others. Santhosh Narayanan composed the film’s music.

The upcoming action film revolves around the life of a a gangster who promises his wife to leave his violent past behind and his father’s criminal legacy, seeking a peaceful life with his beloved. The film stars Suriya and was written and directed by Karthik Subbaraj. The Christmas teaser from last year featured an exhilarating assortment of action set against a stunning vintage backdrop. Teaser was well received by the audience and generated hype for the film. Retro starring Suriya and Pooja Hegde is expected to be released in the summer of 2025, May 1st , 2025.

Suriya was recently seen in the Siva-directed film Kanguva as the lead. This highly awaited fantasy action epic follows the story of a tribal warrior who makes a promise to his adoptive son, which is fulfilled decades later when they are reincarnated. The film failed to impress the audience but successfully running for the Best Picture at the upcoming Oscar Awards 2025.
