Thug Life: Tamil Nadu Reduced Movie Ticket Prices

Tamil Nadu Movie Prices: One of the most anticipated releases of the upcoming week is Thug Life. The multi-hyphenated personality plays the lead part in the movie, which also marks the actor from Pagansam’s comeback with director Mani Ratnam following their classic film Nayakan. Everyone’s eyes are on the reunion and if the two will work their magic on film once more.

However, the release of Thug Life has been marred by controversy immediately before its release in Karnataka, since Kamal Haasan’s previous remarks regarding the Kannada language’s origins generated debate in the state. At the same time, Tamil Nadu has reduced the cost of tickets, making movie theater visits even more reasonable. What effect would these have on the Kamal Haasan film?

Tamil Nadu reduced Ticket Prices:

On Friday, the Tamil Nadu government reduced the Local Bodies Entertainment Tax (LBET) from 8.6% to 4%, cutting it by nearly 50%. The government implemented the new rule after Kamal Haasan petitioned for the change ahead of the release of Thug Life. Industry stakeholders, including producers and distributors, welcomed the decision and praised the government’s move. They believe the lower tax rate will attract more moviegoers and boost the film industry. With Thug Life set to hit theaters on June 5, stakeholders expect ticket prices to decrease as a result of the tax cut.

Kamal Haasan Refused to Apologise:

While Tamil Nadu has received positive news about the film, Karnataka has decided to ban the Kamal Haasan-starrer due to the actor’s recent remarks about the origins of the Kannada language. Kamal Haasan claimed that Kannada originated in Tamil Nadu, a statement that angered many in Karnataka.

Several pro-Kannada organizations expressed their outrage and demanded that Kamal Haasan issue a public apology. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce also urged the actor to retract his statement and apologize, warning that they would ban Thug Life in the state if he refused. Kamal Haasan, however, refused to apologize and stood by his comments. As of now, it remains unclear how the film’s release will unfold in Karnataka, especially since Thug Life‘s bookings have not yet opened in India.
