Top Kannada Films to Watch in Theatres This July

Top Kannada Films: After a slow and disappointing start to 2025, the Kannada film industry is pinning its hopes on the second half of the year to bring audiences back to theaters. The industry faced similar challenges last year, and it wasn’t until August, when Duniya Vijay released Bheema, that the tide began to turn. This year, industry insiders expect a slightly earlier resurgence. Yuva Rajkumar’s second film, Ekka, is already generating buzz and could be the game-changer. Several Kannada films are slated for release in July 2025, and each one will battle it out against big-budget blockbusters at the box office, aiming to revive audience enthusiasm and industry momentum.

1. Kapata Nataka Sutradhari – July 4, 2025

First-time filmmaker Dhiraj MV kicks off the month with his contemporary political satire Kapata Nataka Sutradhari. He not only directs but also plays the lead role in the film, which explores the fallout after a Muslim man gets trapped beneath a famous elephant monument at a medieval Hindu temple. Kapata Nataka Sutradhari hits theaters on the same day as Jurassic World Rebirth, the latest installment in the Jurassic World franchise, which has already received positive early reviews. Audiences will also have other choices at the box office, including MetroDino, and Thammudu.

2. Ekka – July 18, 2025

Yuva Rajkumar returns with his highly anticipated second film, Ekka, directed by Rohit Padaki of Rathnan Prapancha fame. The film follows a man who gets entangled in Bengaluru’s criminal underworld. Sanjana Anand and Sampada Hulivana join Yuva in the cast. Another major release that week is Junior, starring debutant Kireeti. Originally planned as a Kannada-Telugu bilingual, the film will now release in five languages. With Sreeleela also featuring in the cast and Kireeti being the son of mining baron and politician G Janardhan Reddy, the film is set to receive a massive theatrical rollout.

3. Doora Theera Yaana – July 11, 2025

National Award-winning director MansoRe returns with his latest film Doora Theera Yaana, blending his signature visual style with a more mainstream storytelling approach. This time, he delves into the complexities of relationships and the true meaning of togetherness. The story follows Vijay Krishna and Priyanka Kumar as they embark on an emotional journey that brings them closer, helping them understand each other deeply while creating memories to cherish. Doora Theera Yaana will face stiff competition at the box office from Superman, directed by James Gunn, setting up a high-stakes theatrical clash.

4. Su From So – July 25, 2025

Actor JP Thuminad wrote and directed the film, which Raj B Shetty produced. So far, the team has released only the title poster and an energetic dance number, but the film appears to be a comedic drama centered around events at a family gathering. Audiences can also look forward to a packed slate of upcoming releases, including Pawan Kalyan’s Hari Hara, Ajay Devgn’s Son of Sardaar 2Veera MalluMahavatar Narsimha, and The Fantastic Four: First Steps for Company.
