Pakistan Cricketer Yousuf: Mohammad Yousuf, a former batter for Pakistan, taunted India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav on live television following the Asia Cup 2025 players’ disagreement about not shaking hands. Following a crushing defeat in their Group A match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, the Indian players declined to shake hands with their Pakistani opponents.
During an interview on Samaa TV, former Pakistani hitter Yousuf Youhana, who subsequently changed his name to Mohammad Yousuf, used offensive language against Suryakumar.
“Indians can’t escape their cinematic universe. Yousuf stated on the TV program, “India should be ashamed of the way they are trying to win – using umpires, torturing (Pakistan) by way of the match referee, it is a high note.”
What is the Actual Issue?
During the toss, Suryakumar did not shake hands with Pakistani captain Salman Ali Agha, and the Indian players did not shake hands with their counterparts following the seven-wicket victory. To assist the Men in Blue in chasing the pitiful total of 128 runs, the Indian captain hit the decisive six off Sufiyan Muqeem. He and non-striker Shivam Dube left the field after the hit and found their own teammates waiting outside the locker room. Players from Pakistan shook hands among themselves and approached the Indian dressing room to check if their rivals would descend. Additionally, the Indians did not visit Pakistan to see the players.

Suryakumar responded that some things are above sportsmanship when asked why he chose not to shake hands, and when asked if his actions adhere to sportsmanship. “I believe there was perfect alignment between our administration and the BCCI. We arrived and answered a call. At the news conference following the game, Surya stated, “We came here just to play the game, and we gave a proper reply.”

“I believe that some things in life are more important than a sportsman’s enthusiasm. And I’ve already responded to it. We truly stand with all of the victims of the Pahalgam terror assault, as I also stated at the presentation. Additionally, we show our solidarity by standing with their families. As previously stated, we also owe this victory to the valiant military personnel who participated in Operation Sindoor. And since they still motivate us all, we will do everything in our power to motivate them as well, if at all possible,” he continued.
