IPL 2025 Postponed: The continued security situation between India and Pakistan has led the BCCI to stop the 18th season of the Indian Premier League. According to a BCCI official tweet, the league with the highest revenue has been suspended for a week. Given that only 12 league games are remaining, it is crucial to consider how this choice can affect each team’s prospects of making the playoffs.
Each team’s chances of making the IPL playoffs:
1. Royal Challengers Bengaluru:
RCB has earned 16 points from 11 games with a net run rate of 0.482, making IPL Season 18 a lucky run for them. Led by Rajat Patidar, the team holds second place and was set to face the Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Stadium today.
Despite the disruption, RCB remained a strong contender for a top-four spot, needing just one win from their remaining three games to secure a playoff berth. As the IPL season prepares to resume, every franchise, not just RCB, will closely watch their players’ form.
2. Gujarat Titans:
Currently leading the IPL points standings with 16 points from 11 games and a net run rate of +0.793 is the team captained by Shubman Gill. GT just needs to win one of their three games to advance to the playoffs, much like RCB.
3. Punjab Kings:
As a precaution, the BCCI canceled Punjab Kings’ last game against the Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala. But the team led by Shreyas Iyer still has 16 points from 12 games and needs to win one of their next two games to guarantee a spot in the playoffs.
4. Delhi Capitals:
The Mumbai Indians and the Delhi Capitals are essentially in the same boat. They have 14 points after 12 games as well, but their net run rate is lower at 0.362 than MI’s, which is 1.156. They need to win every game to advance to the playoffs; if they don’t, their destiny will depend on the outcomes of other teams.
5. Mumbai Indians:
In a fiercely contested match, the Mumbai Indians fell to fourth place after losing to the Gujarat Titans. Perhaps the biggest impact of this break in the IPL could be on MI, with the Hardik Pandya-led side only firing very late in the tournament, and when they finally found their groove, the IPL is being suspended. Additionally, MI must either win both of its games to advance to the playoffs or win one game and rely on the outcomes of other teams to secure a spot in the top four.

6. Kolkata Knight Riders:
With 11 points from their 12 games and a net run rate of 0.193, KKR is presently ranked sixth in the IPL points standings. Although 14 points should theoretically be sufficient to earn a spot in the playoffs. This year’s heightened competitiveness means that even if KKR wins their final two games, it could not be enough to place in the Top 4.
7. Lucknow Super Giants:
If LSG wins all three of their remaining games, they may reach a maximum of 16 points. They might not be able to make it to the IPL playoffs, though, even if they win all three games.
