India has made major changes to their playing XI for the 5th Test against England at The Oval. Karun Nair has been brought in to replace Shardul Thakur, who has been dropped after his underwhelming performance in the fourth Test. Nair, known for his solid batting technique, will add strength to India’s top order as the team opts for an additional batsman.
Along with Nair’s inclusion, India has tweaked their pace attack. Akash Deep and Prasidh Krishna will replace Jasprit Bumrah and Anshul Kamboj. Mohammed Siraj will lead the pace bowling unit, having been consistent throughout the series. The shift in the pace department aims to add fresh energy to the attack.
Rishabh Pant has been ruled out of the series after a foot injury. In his place, Dhruv Jurel, the backup wicketkeeper, will make his Test debut. Jurel’s inclusion adds depth to the middle order, while the absence of Pant leaves a significant gap in the squad. As a result, both Kuldeep Yadav and Arshdeep Singh have been left out of the playing XI, as India opts for a seam-heavy attack.
The conditions at The Oval, with a grass-covered pitch, have influenced India’s decision to go for extra pace. Kuldeep Yadav, despite his impressive form, will not play, as the team favors seam bowlers. Arshdeep Singh also misses out, with the team opting for more pace-oriented options to combat the English conditions.
Jasprit Bumrah will not feature in the 5th Test, as the team management sticks to their plan of limiting his workload to three Tests in the series. India’s strategy of playing five bowlers, including Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar as all-rounders, aims to balance both batting and bowling strength. With the changes, India will look to finish the series on a high note.
