Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India’s legendary cricket captain, has now taken steps to own the title the world already gave him Captain Cool. Known for his calm under pressure, Dhoni has filed for an official trademark of the iconic phrase.
The application, filed earlier this year, has already been “accepted and advertised” by India’s Trade Marks Registry. It was officially published in the journal on June 16, 2025.
The trademark falls under categories like sports coaching, training, and sports-related services. It aligns perfectly with Dhoni’s post-cricket career, where he continues to mentor, train, and stay involved in the game through various leagues and youth development initiatives.
Interestingly, another company, Prabha Skill Sports (OPC) Pvt Ltd had also filed for the same phrase earlier. However, that application now shows the status “rectification filed,” which suggests Dhoni’s claim may hold stronger legal ground.
Over the years, Dhoni has built a strong personal brand from Seven by MS Dhoni apparel to his association with Chennai Super Kings and multiple sports ventures. The move to trademark Captain Cool signals a larger vision. It could open doors to branded training academies, merchandise, or even digital content under the iconic name. For Dhoni, this is not just sentiment it’s strategy.
This development comes just days after being inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. His legacy as one of India’s most successful captains includes victories in the 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy. Under his calm leadership, India also reached the 2014 T20 World Cup final and the 2015 ODI World Cup semi-final.
With this trademark, Dhoni adds yet another personal milestone to a glittering legacy.
