Mahendra Singh Dhoni Will Captain CSK for Next Games in IPL 2025

Former Indian skipper and ex-CSK captain Dhoni is back to lead the Chennai Super Kings. With CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad ruled out of the tournament due to an elbow injury, MS Dhoni will captain CSK for the rest of IPL 2025. CSK head coach Stephen Fleming confirmed the same in a press conference today. “Due to an elbow injury, Ruturaj Gaikwad is out of the ongoing season and MS Dhoni will take over as captain for the remaining matches”, Stephen Fleming said.

Ruturaj Gaikwad out of IPL 2025 has only added woes to CSK. He has been leading the side as skipper and also at the top batting order. However, Chennai Super Kings had a disappointing tournament so far in the ongoing IPL. The Yellow Army won just one game in its five matches and sits at the ninth spot on the points table. Now that Dhoni is at the helm of CSK, fans expect their fortunes to change and the tables turn.

Dhoni led the CSK from the IPL inaugural season in 2008 to 2023 before he passed the baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad. Since 2024, he remains with the squad as a wicketkeeper-batsman and also mentoring Gaikwad with his experience. Even at 43, Dhoni is quick behind the wickets and hammering the ball out of the park.

MS Dhoni is praised for his game strategy and calm composure. Unlike other skipper who succumb to pressure, he always remain composed in tough situations. It is because of this consistency, CSK became the most successful and popular franchise under Dhoni’s captaincy. In addition to that, Chennai won five titles and appeared in 10 finals.

Dhoni enjoys a massive fan following in CSK and IPL. Hailed as Thala (leader), he is popular amongst every nook and corner in Tamil Nadu.
