Ravi Shastri Unhappy With Rohit and Gautam Gambhir’s Call

Ravi Shastri: Former India head coach Ravi Shastri disapproves of India’s decision to bench skipper Rohit Sharma for the final Test of the five-match series in Australia. The Gautam Gambhir-led management decided to keep the opener out of the starting lineup since Rohit was having trouble scoring runs and India was trailing 2-1 in the series.

The captain was Jasprit Bumrah, who led India to victory in the opening game of the series. However, India lost the match and the series by a score of 3-1 after the star pacer was hurt in the last game. Ahead of the England tour, Rohit, who averaged 10.93 in his last 15 innings, recently declared his retirement from Test cricket.

Ravi Shastri’s ICC Interview:

“I saw Rohit a lot at the toss,” Shastri remarked in an interview with The ICC Review. You don’t have enough time to talk during the toss. However, during one of the games, I did place my hand on his shoulder. I believe it happened in Mumbai when I told him that he would never have missed the final Test match if I had been his coach. The series wasn’t over, thus you would have participated in that last Test match.

And even though the score was 2-1, I’m not one to give up. You leave a team if you think that you are, that’s not the stage. It was a game with 30–40 runs. And I told him precisely that. In Sydney, the pitch was hot. Regardless of his current status, he is a match-winner.

He also said, “You never know what would have happened if he had gone, felt the condition, and hammered it for even 35–40 at the top. It would have been a level series. However, that is up to each individual. The styles of other people vary. I told him that this would have been my style. I’ve had it in my heart for a while. I needed to remove it. I also informed him about that.”

In the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Rohit is presently a member of the Mumbai Indians (MI). Additionally, the right-handed opener has stated that he plans to participate in the 2027 ODI World Cup.
