Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin needs no introduction. He is one of the most influential and famous cricketers of all time. In the latest update by the Greater Chennai Corporation, the government has decided to rename a street in the city after the former Indian off-spinner.
According to the sources, the Indian cricketer will soon have his name added to Ramakrishnapuram 1st Street in Chennai’s West Mambalam. Ashwin presently lives in the same street as well. The official renaming ceremony will be announced soon.
The Carrom Ball Event and Marketing Company Private Limited, owned by Ravichandran Ashwin, presented the renaming petition to the GCC. The article claims that the corporation had suggested renaming either Ramakrishnapuram 1st Street or Arya Gowda Road in the cricketer’s honor. The suggestion was approved by the GCC, which also decided to rename the latter.
Most of the people say this is well deserved for the born native of the city. Ashwin has practiced on the Chennai streets and rose as one of the top cricketers in India. He is one of the top wicket-takers for India in the test matches.
The off-spinner’s unconventional variations and game-winning spells are well-known. Even if he is no longer playing international cricket, he still has some cricket left in him because he will play for the Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League, which starts on Saturday.
Ashwin took 537 wickets in 106 test matches while playing for India. With 156 wickets in 116 ODIs and 72 wickets in 65 T20Is, the spinner has an equally remarkable record in the limited-overs formats. Apart from his cricket career, he is also training budding cricketers in the city with the help of Greater Chennai Corporation.
