Rohit Sharma on his retirement rumours : “I’m not going to retire”

By announcing that he will still play ODIs for his country, India skipper Rohit Sharma put an end to rumors that he was retiring. After leading the team to an unforgettable ICC Champions Trophy 2025 victory. Rohit Sharma declared that he is not retiring and will continue to play ODIs for India. India’s captain put an end to ‘retirement’ rumors just as he was about to step down from the chair. Rohit avoided the subject the entire time.

Rohit Sharma Clarity on rumors:

He said, “One more thing. I am not going to retire from this format. Just want to make sure there are no rumors spread moving forward. Thank you so much.”

The choice isn’t really surprising. Even if there have been rumors that the 38-year-old Rohit’s final day as an Indian cricket player was March 9, 2025, retirement is still a ways off. Rohit’s removal from the playing XI before the Sydney Test during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy sparked initial rumors about his future. As early as the conclusion of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, it was stated that Rohit’s retirement was imminent. Still, here we are. Three months later, Rohit was demonstrating his will to continue.

Rohit was questioned about his future at one point during the PC, and he answered. A reticent response to the ‘R’ word was presumed. However, after ten minutes or so, Rohit finally put an end to the situation.

“Let’s see,” or abhi dekhte hai. It is a significant accomplishment to win two ICC trophies. Being unbeaten is the cherry on top. There aren’t many teams that I’ve seen win two tournaments without losing. We needed to arrive here and be well-prepared. We made good use of the circumstances. No plans for the future exist. The current situation will persist in the future.

Rohit Sharma’s next step:
Although Rohit has promised to play more ODIs, it is unclear if he will be ready for the 2027 World Cup in South Africa. The skipper, Rohit, has won numerous ICC titles, something that only MS Dhoni had done before him. He has surpassed Dhoni, leading India to victory in the Champions Trophy and the T20 World Cup in just nine months. Rohit would have won all three major ICC trophies in less than two years if Australia hadn’t spoiled India’s celebration on the evening of November 19.

India’s shift in leadership is something that requires careful thought. Even though Rohit can play for as long as he wants and score significant runs as he demonstrated in the final, when he hit a game-changing 76 to give India a head start in their chase of 252. He may choose to resign as captain of India at the right moment. It is improbable that Rohit will travel to South Africa as India’s captain if he participates in the 2027 World Cup two years from now, by the time he turns 40.
