SRH VS HCA: The conflict between the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) regarding the distribution of free tickets for Indian Premier League (IPL) games at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium has finally been settled.
The issue was settled during a meeting between the two parties on Tuesday, when HCA ordered SRH management to follow the current category distribution of 3900 free passes to HCA and pledged to work with SRH professionally. Before SRH’s most recent IPL game against the Lucknow Super Giants, the two sides reportedly got into a fight after some HCA executives sealed one of the corporate boxes and wouldn’t unlock it until HCA received twenty more free tickets.
Despite initially agreeing to the demands, SRH’s general manager, Srinath T.B., wrote to the HCA treasurer on March 29 to point out what had transpired and to threaten to relocate the franchise outside of Hyderabad if HCA officials didn’t alter their stance. According to the SRH, the HCA has been employing coercive and intimidating techniques over the past two years, which have made it difficult for them to use the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium. According to the email that IANS has, the SRH General Manager also requested a meeting with members of the HCA Apex Council to discuss this matter. The meeting took place on Tuesday, when officials from both sides spoke about it.
The Hyderabad Cricket Association later clarified in a statement that the problems had been fixed. HCA Secretary Mr. R. Devraj met with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) executives today at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in response to several allegations about problems between the two teams that have been making the rounds in the mainstream and online media. Representatives from SRH, Mr. Kiran, Mr. Saravanan, and Mr. Rohit Suresh, were present at the meeting.
“After extensive talks and additional phone chats with Mr. Shanmugam, the CEO of SRH, the following resolution was decided upon:
“By standard procedure, the category distribution of 3900 free passes to HCA will not alter. The statement continued, “HCA has assured SRH that they will fully professionally cooperate with SRH.”
“HCA and SRH remain committed to working together amicably to enhance the spectator experience at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium,” the statement added. Even though the issue has been settled, the SRH side has not yet responded, and they are probably going to do so after the 2025 Indian Premier League.
Anumula Revanth Reddy, Telangana’s chief minister, has launched an investigation into the case after SRH accused HCA officials of coercion and extortion. The Sun Group of Tamil Nadu owns SRH, having purchased it from the Deccan Chronicle Group more than ten years ago. In contrast, the HCA is run by an executive committee led by former India captain Mohammad Azharuddin.
