Varun Aaron Becomes New Bowling Coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad

Varun Aaron Becomes New Bowling Coach:

Former Indian fast bowler Varun Aaron has been appointed as the new bowling coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad. The team made this announcement on social media on Monday, July 14, 2025. Aaron, who hails from Jharkhand, had officially retired from competitive cricket earlier this year.

Varun Aaron Becomes New Bowling Coach:

Varun Aaron was known for his express pace during the 2010s, a rare quality among Indian bowlers at the time. He played for India in 18 international matches nine Tests and nine One Day Internationals and picked up 29 wickets. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), he had a long run from 2011 to 2022. During his IPL journey, he played for five different franchises and took 44 wickets, finishing with an economy rate of 8.93.

After retiring, Aaron tried his hand at cricket commentary. Now, his new role with Sunrisers Hyderabad marks his first step into coaching.

Sunrisers Hyderabad had a disappointing IPL 2025 season. After being finalists in 2024, they finished in sixth place this year. Though they had a great start by posting the highest team total of the season — 286 for 6 against Rajasthan Royals — their bowling performance throughout the tournament was inconsistent. They often failed to stop the opposing teams from scoring freely.

Earlier, New Zealand’s James Franklin had served as the team’s bowling coach during the 2024 and 2025 seasons. He took over the role after Dale Steyn withdrew before the 2024 season due to personal reasons. With Aaron now joining the coaching staff, Franklin is expected to take on a new role within the franchise.

Aaron’s appointment brings hope that his experience as a fast bowler will help Sunrisers Hyderabad rebuild a strong and disciplined bowling unit for the next season.
