India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, has praised his team’s performance after the series against England ended in a 2-2 draw. Gambhir called the result “outstanding” and congratulated the players for their effort. The draw comes after a hard-fought series that saw India showing resilience throughout.
Gambhir emphasized the importance of maintaining a strong team culture, one focused on hard work and constant improvement. “We will keep getting better. We will keep working hard. And We will keep improving our areas,” he said in a video shared by the BCCI.
He believes that if the team consistently works on their weaknesses, they can dominate world cricket for a long time. Gambhir also highlighted that while players may come and go, the culture of the dressing room should remain unchanged. “People should want to be a part of this culture,” he added.
In his message, Gambhir also addressed the ongoing issue of players picking and choosing matches based on workload management. The head coach has long been against the “mega-star culture” in Indian cricket, where players prioritize certain games over others.
According to a senior BCCI official, the message will be conveyed to centrally contracted players that such behavior will no longer be entertained. The BCCI, Gambhir, and the selection committee are all aligned on putting an end to this practice.

Gambhir’s comments reflect a broader focus on creating a sustainable culture of excellence within Indian cricket. By fostering hard work and commitment, he aims to set the foundation for continued success, ensuring that the team remains competitive in the long term. With the right mindset, Gambhir believes India has the potential to lead global cricket for many years to come.
