What is second ball rule in IPL 2025: All Updated Rules

IPL 2025 has updated its rules for the upcoming matches. The upcoming match which begins the 2025 tournament with Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bengaluru tomorrow, March 22. Following this BCCI has introduced new rules while retaining some existing ones.


Here are some updated rules from BCCI for the IPL 2025:

1. No Match Bans for Slow Over-Rates

According to the new rules given by BCCI, no captain will get banned from the matches for the slow over-rates. For overruling this rule and balancing the rule, BCCI has come up with a different approach. Any captain who goes through this will be penalized around 20 to 75% of match fees along with demerit points for the level 1 offense. Four demerit points will be counted as a level 2 offense.


2. Saliva Ban Lifted

Previously during Covid 19 the board has introduced Saliva Ban to reduce the corona disease. This will minimize the spread of the disease. Now the bolwers will have a relief, as they are allowed to use saliva on the ball from IPL 2025.

3. Second Ball Rule

The addition of a second ball is the most recent change to the IPL 2025 regulations. If the umpires determine that a second ball is necessary after the eleventh over of the second innings, the bowling side may choose to use it to counteract the effects of dew in night matches. When it comes to afternoon matches, which begin at 3:30 PM IST, this restriction does not apply.

Impact Player & DRS Rule:  

It is also reported that Impact player rule will be stayed till IPL 2027. In the recent times this rule has got flak from the bowlers and also from few experts. But, it is said that this rule is going to stay till IPL 2027.

From the latest update it is also reported that players are going to have more liberty to call the DRS when there is height-based no balls and wides outside the off-stump. In the past, there has been many controversy and many issues raised because of the height-based no balls and wides. In the upcoming matches from tomorrow, the Umpires in IPL 2025 will be able to make accurate decisions.
