2025 WTC final will remain a memorable day in the history of South African cricket. The hearts of South African fans are finally filled with joy, pride, and a great sense of relief. The Proteas defeated the defending champions Australia at the iconic Lords and claimed their maiden ICC championship. It took them ages to discard the choker tag and redeem themselves from the cricket curse.

On several occasions in the past, South Africa nearly missed many major tournaments, especially in World Cups. However, with this win in the World Test Championship final against Australia, the team broke free from several labels. After enduring so much humiliation and experiencing an intense dose of drama in crucial games, the Proteas at last registered a win in an ICC final. By turning the tables in the final of the ICC World Championship, they take home their very first ICC trophy.

Despite losing nonstop wickets and scoring a paltry total in the first innings, South Africa bounced back and dominated in the second innings. Aiden Markram played one of a memorable innings and anchored his team to claim a stupendous victory. His terrific knock under pressure (136) along with Temba Bavuma (66) and David Bedingham guided to lift the 2025 WTC trophy. Furthermore, Kagiso Rabada and Lungi Ngidi contributed to team success.

Temba Bavuma did what the greatest South African legends like Hansie Cronje, Shaun Pollock, Jacques Kallis, Graeme Smith, and AB Devilliers failed to do. He broke the age-old jinx and ensured his team won the ICC final. He became the first skipper to grab a major trophy.
