Dangerous Apps: A warning has been issued by cybersecurity firm Cyble Research and Intelligence Labs that 20 malware apps on the Google Play Store pose a serious threat to smartphone users. The warning comes in the form of cryptocurrency wallets, which are designed to steal sensitive user data such as wallet recoveries. Users are advised to remove these apps from their phones immediately to avoid phishing attacks and financial losses.
At first glance, these apps may appear to be genuine. But in reality, they are part of a phishing campaign designed to steal your most sensitive financial credentials. These fake cryptocurrency wallet apps are designed to steal the wallet recovery phrase, a key feature for accessing users’ DeFi wallets. Apps like SushiSwap, PancakeSwap, Raydium, Hyperliquid, and Suiet Wallet are part of this scam. Once a user downloads such an app, it prompts them to enter their 12-word recovery phrase. Cybercriminals then collect this data to gain access to the user’s wallet.
Cybercriminals upload these malicious apps to Google Play using developer accounts linked to gaming and video editing tools. The apps hide phishing URLs within their privacy policies and trick users into providing sensitive information. These apps mimic the design and functionality of real crypto wallet apps.
If you have any of these apps installed on your smartphone, uninstall them immediately to prevent your crypto funds and personal data from being stolen.
Avoid downloading less-known crypto apps from unofficial sources.
Never enter your 12-word recovery phrase in unfamiliar apps. Always verify the developer’s name and read and understand reviews before installation.
