IT Hub in Vizag: In a significant boost to South India’s growing IT landscape, leading global IT services firm Cognizant has announced a major investment in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. The company will set up a state-of-the-art IT campus in the city at a cost of $182.76 million (₹1,582 crore), as reported by news agency Reuters.
The proposed campus is expected to generate employment for 8,000 professionals, marking a key milestone in Cognizant’s strategy. So as to expand its presence in tier-two cities across India. The Andhra Pradesh government has committed to leasing 21.31 acres of land to Cognizant for the project. which is scheduled to be completed and operational by March 2029, according to an official press release.
This announcement comes shortly after Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), India’s largest IT company, revealed plans to invest ₹1,370 crore in a new campus in Visakhapatnam. The TCS facility is expected to create 12,000 new jobs, positioning the city as a rising star in India’s IT ecosystem.
Cognizant’s investment aligns with its broader strategic shift to tap into emerging tech hubs beyond the major metropolitan areas. By focusing on cities like Visakhapatnam, the company aims to capitalize on local talent, improve cost efficiency, and contribute to regional economic development.
Founded in 1994 in Chennai, Cognizant is now headquartered in New Jersey, USA, and is recognized as one of the world’s leading IT service providers. The company continues to show strong business momentum and has projected annual revenues of between $20.5 billion and $20.8 billion by 2025.
