Apple will reportedly enter the foldable phone market in 2026. The iPhone Fold might possibly be introduced along with the iPhone 18. The arrival of the iPhone Fold will mark one of the most eagerly awaited smartmobiles releases in recent years besides Samsung and Google’s foldable offerings, an event which may be followed by the release of foldables from other tech titans as well. Apple also speculates that this device with a brand new form factor and design may
signal a change in usage compared to a typical folding smartphone (perhaps the addition of features).
The iPhone Fold would most likely feature a book-like design. A report from not long ago indicates that it might be paired with a titanium and aluminum frame. This would mean that the phone is both sturdy and light in weight as aluminum is a metal of low density for the frame or shell.
The hinge area section could very well be made of Liquid metal that has been toughly refined. In general, someone who gets their hands on an iPhone Fold will probably receive a product with excellent design and the feeling of being made heavy-duty and strong.
It is expected that the phone will have two separate screens. The main one inside might be about 7.8 inches and the one outside or the cover could be around 5.5 inches. Basically, it would be like a smaller and more compact tablet folding into half a standard-sized phone. Both screens will be of OLED and will most probably be made with state-of-the-art technology.
Apple has stated that it will have the A20 Pro chip inside, which is supposed to bring top performance. The device may have a max of around 12GB of RAM for its performance capabilities, and 256GB of storage would likely be the default storage option.
It might also have dual cameras at 48MP for the rear, meaning there could be both high quality photo and video; and an under-display selfie camera. It really achieves a full-screen viewing experience comparable to a professional setup as a camera system.
The device could potentially come with a massive 5,000–5,500 mAh battery, providing all-day power for most users. The device will support fast wired and wireless charging and battery optimization will play a major role with the dual screens.
Apple could swap Face ID for Touch ID. The power button may contain the fingerprint sensor as it may suit the folding form factor better while being a familiar and secure method to unlock.
The price will likely not be significantly less than $2,000. In India, the phone may range between ₹1.75–2.20 lakhs. In spite of its price, it will rival the Galaxy Z Fold series by Samsung, as well as the Google Pixel Fold as a more direct rival, making it feel again like being in the ultra-premium zone.
The expectation is September of 2026, which is the same timeline as the launch of the iPhone 18. Along with the iPhone 18, the iPhone Air 2 would possibly be introduced as well. After the announcement, it shouldn’t take long for global availability.
