Apple has just launched the new M5 MacBook Pro into the market. To a large extent, this laptop is able to provide improved AI performance. It is a successor to the highly acclaimed M4 model that was launched last year. A lot of people are asking about the main differences between the two. A key comparison between the two devices will pinpoint every significant change for you.
No changes in the outward appearance can be spotted. The M5 version is constructed of the very same metal material just like the M4 model. It has the same length, width, and weight. The design of both models is the same familiar one, which is smart. Apart from that, the existing two color options for the new M5 model remain unchanged. Therefore, you can still pick either Space Black or Silver as your preferred color. Apple did not take the risk of design changes but instead upgraded the components inside the machine.
Each of these two computers boasts a 14.2-inch Liquid Retina XDR display. They both have the same sharpness as well as pixel density. Moreover, mini-LED technology is employed for excellent contrast levels. In fact, peak brightness may go as high as 1,600 nits for HDR content. The ProMotion feature has made 120Hz refresh rate possible. There is still an option to choose the nano-texture glass. Their capability to support an external display is likewise similar.
This is the section where Apple did a big overhaul. The M5 chip comes with a pleasant-to-the-eye AI performance boost. The GPU core in the chip has a new Neural Accelerator. Apple speaks of up to 3.5 times quicker AI tasks. Now the graphics performance is 1.6 times faster. Multi-threaded CPU speed has gone up by about 20 percent. Also, they increased the memory bandwidth from 120GB/s to 153GB/s.
It is the same 12MP Center Stage camera that both models have. The video quality of the calls is 1080p. The camera is powered by Apple’s image signal processor. The six-speaker sound system stays the same. The system supports force-cancelling woofers and Spatial Audio. The three-microphone array picks up the voice clearly. The headphone jack, however, is still compatible with high-impedance headphones.
The starting configuration of the device is 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. There is now an option for 4TB storage with the M5. None of the connection or charging ports has been changed. Along with these three Thunderbolt 4 ports, are HDMI, MagSafe 3 and an SDXC card slot. The battery life has not been altered either. Up to 24 hours of video playback is still possible with the current battery.
The starting price of the M5 MacBook Pro is Rs. 1,69,900. What it means is that the M5 is more affordable than the M4 was. Students are allowed to purchase the device for Rs. 1,59,999. So, you can get an M5 if you want a better AI and graphics performance. However, if you are contented with the M4, then there is no need to upgrade. Basically, the experience outside is almost identical.
