Amazon is altering Prime member usage rules. Beginning October 1, 2025, free shipping sharing will cease for non-household members. The Prime Invitee program will come to a halt. In place of the Invitee program, once the program ends Amazon Family will take effect.
Effectively this changes the last Prime Invitee program into a new family program, which has implications for users that are located at different addresses. Learn how this affects you, and what is new.
The Prime Invitee program allowed members the opportunity to share free two-day shipping. This program was available with someone that was located at a different address, with no additional fee associated with it. Friends or family were able to enjoy the shipping benefits, and one Prime account allowed for two people. Quick shipping provided ease, and reached two homes. The sharing option was a nice way for many to save money.
Amazon wants non-household users to get their own Prime membership. They are discontinuing the Invitee program, and encouraging individual subscriptions to help meet their goal. The plan aligns to Amazon’s plan. New users signing up for membership, get discount, and that will start soon and last until December 31, 2025.
Amazon Family will replace the Invitee program. It will allow sharing shipping with 1 adult, 4 teens, and 4 kids/sharing members, all sharing the same home address. Teens are eligible if they were added to the account before April 7, 2025. The benefits still include free shipping and exclusive offers, along with Prime Video and more.
Prime members share more than shipping. They can also take advantage of movies, music, and deals. Remember Grubhub+ membership is free so you don’t waste additional money! Consider saving on fuel from select stations. Up to four household profiles can join in. The benefit is a shared experience from the program, and it keeps all benefits within one home.
Non-household invitees can register for their own Prime account. Amazon charges ₹399 for one year in India. This is a good deal and saves money. After the year, the rates might increase. Amazon’s website will have the information. Savings can be extra if there are bank offers or exchanges on the product. Make sure to register before the expiry.
On October 1, invitees will lose their free shipping option. This cap out will force invitees who were only invited to register for their own household or pay for Prime. Account sharing remains possible with deviations. There are negatives with accounts where orders can be interwined.
Payment methods could also be intertwined. The only benefit that would allow for account reviewed is if they used Amazon Family and the household only has its address as a shared member. To keep reaping the benefits better plan in advance.
Fist, determine if the changes affect you. Register for your own Prime account. Secondly, look for the Amazon Family account that you can share in order for household sharing. Take these discounts while you have them. Check Amazon often for an updates on this policy relating to household sharing. Be prepared for October 1. Have the benefits of Prime with a new plan.
