Beta CX300: India’s First Passenger E-Plane, Just ₹700 a Ride

Beta CX300: Beta Technologies’ Alia CX300 achieved a major milestone in aviation by becoming the first all-electric aircraft to fly safely with passengers on board. Earlier this month, the aircraft made history when it flew from East Hampton to John F. Kennedy Airport, carrying four passengers over 70 nautical miles (approximately 130 kilometers) in just over 30 minutes, according to a news agency report.

This flight stood out not only for its electric propulsion but also for its affordability. While a helicopter would typically consume fuel worth ₹13,885 ($160) for the same journey, the electric flight cost just ₹694 ($8) in electricity. The passengers also enjoyed a notably quieter experience, thanks to the absence of engine and propeller noise, allowing for easier conversation and a more pleasant ride.

Kyle Clark, founder and CEO of Beta Technologies, confirmed that the all-electric aircraft completed the journey from East Hampton to JFK in just 35 minutes, a first for the New York Port Authority and the region. “We traveled about 70 nautical miles and spent only $8 to charge and fly this aircraft,” he said. “Of course, we still need to pay the pilot and account for the aircraft costs, but overall, it’s significantly cheaper.”

The company says the CX300’s affordability and comfort could soon make electric air travel common among everyday commuters and tourists. Beta Technologies, a Vermont-based firm founded in 2017, has been developing two electric aircraft: the Alia 250 eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) and the CX300 (conventional takeoff and landing).

To boost production, fast-track FAA certification, and bring its electric aircraft to the commercial market, Beta Technologies recently raised $318 million.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is expected to approve the CX300 by the end of this year. With a single-battery range of up to 250 nautical miles, the aircraft offers an ideal solution for short-distance travel between cities and suburbs.

Beta Technologies is not alone in shaping the future of electric aviation. Last month, Archer Aviation was named the official air taxi partner for the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Despite awaiting FAA approval, Archer plans to launch its air taxi service in Los Angeles by 2026, offering city travelers a sleek and time-saving alternative. With the successful flight of the CX300, Beta Technologies has taken a major step forward in turning electric air travel into a clean, efficient, and accessible reality.
