On September 25, 2025, Xiaomi launched its 17 series with Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max models to choose from. The Pro Max model is the premium model at the top of the range, featuring Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip. The new model is aimed at competing with other flagship smartphones including the iPhone 17 Pro Max and Galaxy S25 Ultra. Below, we discuss some aspects to compare with you which flagship best suits you.
The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is currently available only in China. It was available for CNY 5,999 for the base model with 12GB RAM and 512GB of storage. This is approximately Rs 74,700.
The model with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage is priced at CNY 6,299 (about Rs 78,500) and the model with 16GB RAM and 1TB of storage is priced at CNY 6,999 (about Rs 87,200). Colour options include Black, Cold Smoke Purple, Forest Green, and White.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max starts at Rs 1,49,900 in India for the 256GB storage option. For the 512GB storage option, it is priced at Rs 1,69,900. The 1TB model is priced at Rs 1,89,900 and the 2TB model is priced at Rs 2,29,900. Colour options are Cosmic Orange, Deep Blue, and Silver. Overall, Xiaomi is better value for money.
Xiaomi 17 Pro Max has a dual screen on top of the traditional display that will enable users to take a selfie with the rear camera (often seen as superior). The Magic Back Screen gives the user a glimpse of how their image will look like without turning the smartphone around.
The build is protected via a Dragon Crystal Glass giving it extra premium feel and protection. The device also comes with an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. The dimensions (in mm) are 162.9 x 77.6 x 8.0 mm and weight is comfortable at 219g.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max has a unibody built that is sleek. At the rear, there is a whole camera bump that spans the entire width of the device. It utilizes a Ceramic Shield 2 for durability, and it also has an IP68 rating for water and dust proofing. The overall dimensions are 163.4 x 78 x 8.75 mm, and the weight is 231 g. Apple is putting an emphasis on premium build quality here.
The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max comes with a 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED panel with a resolution 1,200 x 2,608 pixels. The refresh rate is 120Hz, while the touch sampling rate is 300Hz with a peak brightness of 3,500 nits. The display supports both DC dimming and coverage for a P3 color gamut, HDR10+ support, and Dolby Vision. It also has a 2.9-inch rear display with 120Hz refresh rate and a resolution of 596 x 976 pixels.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max has a Super Retina XDR OLED display with a 6.9-inch size and a resolution of 1,320 x 2,868 pixels. It has a 120Hz ProMotion screen refresh rate, with a brightness of 1,600 nits. It has HDR capabilities, True Tone, and supports the P3 color gamut. The Xiaomi provides a combination of greater brightness and features on its display.
The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor with up to 16GB of RAM, with options up to 1TB of storage. HyperOS 3 runs on its Android 16 base.
Apple has the iPhone 17 Pro Max powered by its A19 Pro processor, with 12GB of RAM and support for storage of up to 2TB . It has a vapor chamber for heat, and runs iOS 26. Performance is expected to be very good for either device, however, the Xiaomi provides more RAM.
Xiaomi 17 Pro Max features Leica-tuned triple cameras. 50MP main sensor performs well. The 50MP ultra-wide lens is useful. 50MP periscope telephoto lens zooms in up to 5X. Front camera 50MP does selfies.
iPhone 17 Pro Max has triple cameras too. 48MP main camera captures detail. 48MP ultra-wide lens has sharp images at an expanded view. The 48MP telephoto lens with 4X optical zoom. Front camera at 18MP is better than Xiaomi. Both have photos like pros.
Xiaomi 17 Pro Max has a capacity at 7,500mAh. 100-watt wired charging refills the battery quickly. 50-watt wireless charging is useful as well as 22.5 watt reverse wireless charging feature.
iPhone 17 Pro Max has an estimated capacity of 5,088mAh. 37 hours of video playback. 40-watt wired charging. MagSafe wireless charging rated at 15 watts. Xiaomi clearly is the overall winner in battery life.
The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max is priced lower and has larger battery capacity and has higher megapixel camera, with more advanced dual-screen design.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max is still relatively more premium with iOS integration, a higher maximum storage capacity option, and benefits of Apple’s exclusive ecosystem.
