Chrome and Firefox Users Alert:
The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued a high alert for all Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox users across the country. According to the report, serious vulnerabilities have been found in both browsers, which can allow hackers to steal sensitive data or even crash systems remotely.
CERT-In discovered multiple security flaws in Chrome OS, ChromeOS Flex, Firefox, Firefox ESR, and Thunderbird versions. These flaws can be used by cyber attackers to gain unauthorized access to your personal information. Users running older versions of these browsers are at the highest risk.
For instance, Chrome versions before 16404.45.0, Firefox versions before 144, and Thunderbird versions before 140.4 are all considered unsafe. The vulnerabilities include issues such as memory corruption, heap buffer overflow, and use-after-free bugs, which can let attackers take control of a computer simply by getting users to open a harmful web page.
CERT-In strongly advises users to update their browsers to the latest version immediately. Both Google and Mozilla have released patch updates to fix these issues. Users can enable the auto-update feature on their browsers to ensure they always have the latest security protection without manual effort.
If you are still using an old version, go to your browser’s settings and update it right away. This simple step can protect your system from hacking attempts, data leaks, and crashes.
Hackers often use browser weaknesses to target online banking details, passwords, and personal data. Regularly updating browsers ensures your system stays protected against new cyber threats.
For your safety, always keep Chrome, Firefox, or any browser you use updated to its latest version.
