Elon Musk’s AI company, X, is rolling out Grok Imagine, a cutting-edge AI video generation tool for X. Users will have the ability to make short videos right in the app, using artificial intelligence.
Musk has been teasing Grok Imagine for months now with a small amount of people given early access, particularly influencers and xAI employees. The update is intended to open the program to a broader scope of users.
Grok Imagine is a tool that enables users to produce AI-driven video with sound, based off of text prompts. The tool is also able to translate images into video animations, making it faster to generate creative content.
Musk teased that Grok Imagine would revive Vine’s short-form video style, which Twitter shut down in 2017, but now powered by AI.
Videos generated using Grok Imagine will have a six-minute cap, just like Vine’s original limit before Twitter removed it.
There’s also a “spicy mode,” that will accept adult content and nudity, according to xAI staff member Mati Roy. This feature is anticipated to be controversial and optional to use.
Elon Musk explained the steps for early access: update your X app and request placement on the Grok Imagine waitlist.
In addition to Grok Imagine, xAI launched virtual AI companions, Ani and Valentine, focused on interactive conversations but received backlash for inappropriate and explicit conversations, prompting some to question the AI moderation of content.
Musk’s company is increasing its investment into AI infrastructure, adding 110,000 graphics processing units (GPUS) to its supercomputer, Collosus. Additionally, xAI is reported to be building a child-friendly Grok application called “baby Grok.”
Grok Imagine has the potential to change the workflow for content creators working on X (X is the new name for Twitter) because it can now instantly generate a video using AI from just a prompt. This will save event more time to produce videos as it now allows anyone, including influencers and casual users, to make engaging short videos in little time.

Grok Imagine is significant because its introduction is a part of Musk’s larger strategy to develop X into a home for content powered by AI to compete against other video services.
