Meta AI: Facebook’s parent company Meta is heavily focused on developing artificial intelligence. The company is reportedly offering its AI engineers huge salaries to attract and retain top talent to stay ahead of its competitors. Now, some details about the salaries of Meta’s AI research engineers have emerged. Recently released federal filings show that top AI research engineers at Meta earn a base salary of up to $440,000. This amount is approximately Rs 3.76 crore at the current exchange rate.
The figures come from documents submitted by Meta for the H-1B visa program. The data reveals what tech companies offer their employees, apart from bonuses, equity grants and other benefits. These filings are required by US labor laws for companies hiring foreign workers through the H-1B visa lottery system. The system allows 85,000 specialized employees to enter the American workforce annually.
Meanwhile, India Today reports that Meta is offering high salaries to top talent in its various departments, citing Business Insider. While the highest base salary for AI research engineers at Meta is $440,000, it does not provide salary information for other jobs. Machine learning engineers are reported to earn between $165,000 and $440,000, while senior research scientists and tech program managers earn over $230,000. However, it is important to note that these figures do not include fringe benefits such as restricted stock units (RSUs), which are a major part of the salary structure of tech companies.
The filing shows that those working in the data science and software engineering fields at Meta receive high packages. A software engineer at Meta can earn a base salary of up to $480,000. Meanwhile, data science managers and directors earn between $248,000 and $320,000. Product managers, designers, and user experience researchers also earn six-figure base salaries.
But Meta is not alone in offering big pay to tech talent. Other tech companies also offer high pay scales to ensure they have smart techies working on their AI projects. One example is Thinking Machine Labs, a stealth startup founded by former Open AI CTO Meera Murati. Although it has not yet launched a single product, Thinking Machine Labs is reportedly offering its tech employees a base salary of up to $500,000.
