Foldable iPhone: Apple is reportedly preparing to enter the foldable smartphone market after a long wait. Apple is expected to start production of its first foldable iPhone by the end of this year. The first foldable iPhone will be released in 2026 along with the iPhone 18 series.

Apple’s contract manufacturer Foxconn will start production of this foldable smartphone in the late third quarter or early fourth quarter of this year, TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said in a post shared on social media platform X. However, Kuo said that the specifications of several components, including its hinge, have not been decided. Samsung’s display is likely to be used in this foldable iPhone. Samsung is reportedly preparing to manufacture 7 million to 8 million flexible panels for this.

Apple Gears Up for Production

Kuo said that Apple will order 15 to 20 million foldable iPhone panels from Samsung. This order will help meet the demands for this foldable for two to three years. The company is moving to manufacture a large number of foldable iPhones in the second half of next year. The price of the foldable iPhone is likely to be high. This book-style foldable smartphone from Apple may have a 5.5-inch display and a 7.8-inch screen. Sales of foldable smartphones have been growing rapidly in the last few years. Korean tech giant Samsung has the highest market share in this segment.

In the first quarter of this year, Apple’s iPhone 16 ranked first in international smartphone sales. Five of Apple’s iPhone models made it to the top 10 smartphone sales list in the first quarter. The iPhone 16, which was released last year, is in first place, followed by the iPhone 16 Pro Max in second place, and the iPhone 16 Pro in third place. For Apple, the iPhone 16 Pro models account for almost half of total iPhone sales for the third consecutive quarter. In this list, the iPhone 16e is in sixth place and the iPhone 16 Plus is in tenth place.
