Apple’s iOS 18 is upgrading Siri with ChatGPT, however, this feature will only work for iPhone 15 Pro or newer. For older iPhones, Apple Intelligence will now not be available. There will be less security using this technique though, so you will need to be comfortable using a Chat, GPT app on any device in the first instance. My suggestion is to first carry out informal queries.
If you would like a smoother experience using ChatGPT, you can use the OpenAI API method. You can type in your own Siri Shortcut or source a Siri Shortcut from a reputable online resource. Simply add your OpenAI API key to the existing Siri Short Cut code, then launch it using Siri and your query will go straight to ChatGPT. The response is delivered on Siri. It felt like it was integrated but cost money.
Basically register for an OpenAI API Key online, download a trusted Siri Shortcut, put the key into the Shortcut settings, then ask Siri to launch it. The Shortcut sends your questions to ChatGPT when Siri activates it. The responses are fast and easy to read. Watch the cost of usage though, as API calls are not free.
Both approaches can identify and use ChatGPT on older iPhones. The app method is free and easy. The API method gives better integration. Neither come close to Apple’s approach to privacy.
