Hackers: India has become the most vulnerable country to malware attacks, according to a report prepared by cybersecurity firm Acronis. India has surpassed Brazil and Spain in terms of being vulnerable to malware attacks. The Acronis report says that the increase in ransomware attacks is due to artificial intelligence, i.e. AI. The company has prepared this report based on a survey conducted from January to June this year.
The Swiss cybersecurity firm Acronis Cyberthreats report warns that India’s digital ecosystem is facing several major threats simultaneously and that these together will create a frightening situation. The report is based on data obtained from more than a million global devices such as laptops and mobile phones.
Malware was found on 12.4 percent of devices running the Windows operating system in India in May. This means that the most cyber accidents occur among those using the Windows operating system. This is the highest rate in the world. This figure increased to 13.2 percent in June. Cyberattacks on official emails increased from 20 percent in early 2024 to 25.6 percent in the first half of 2025.
The report also says that cybercriminals have started using AI tools to steal personal information such as credit cards and passwords. Generative AI technology has reduced the burden on cybercriminals and made attacks easier. As a result, phishing emails, fake invoices, and deepfake-based scams are now more difficult to detect, explains the Acronis report. Ransomware portals such as Cl0p, Akira, and Qilin have expanded their operations worldwide. The report also says that criminals are increasingly using tools such as remote management software to spread malware.
