Instagram has added some exciting new features with its recent update, which ease and make sharing and discovering content more enjoyable.
Previously, you could not repost directly to your feed on Instagram, you could only share via your Stories or send it to someone through DMs. Now Instagram allows you to easily repost public Reels and feed posts directly to your followers’ feed. The repost shows in the feed just like a normal post, except you will see the name of the original post creator.
It is very easy to repost content with the new feature. Just tap the repost icon (two arrows in a square shape) below any Reel or post. You’ll see a prompt to add a short note or message before clicking repost. Once you click repost, it goes live on your feed and in the Reposts tab.
Instagram also added a new Friends tab inside the Reels section. This tab shows Reels that your friends liked, commented on, or shared. It helps you discover trending videos with your inner circle. This is a great way to stay connected with what your friends are interested in.
A new feature is a Live Map, which is similar to Snapchat’s map. This shows where your friends and creators are posting in real-time. Users can find the Live Map in the upper portion of the DMs until it goes full screen. The Live Map is only available in the U.S. at the moment, but should be rolling out soon. Fortunately, Instagram built in privacy settings so other users could not see their location.
Overall, Instagram has rolled out three updates: Repost, Friends tab in Reels, and a Live Map. Each provides designers with better tools to share, discover, and interact with friends. We can expect more rollouts in the months to come!
