iPhone 17 Pro To Get Scratch-Proof, Anti-Glare Display: Apple’s Bold New Upgrade

iPhone 17 Pro To Get Scratch-Proof, Anti-Glare Display: Apple’s Bold New Upgrade

Apple is in the process of making a significant upgrade to the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max versions with a scratch-resistant and anti-reflective coating on the display, according to a report. While we are still several weeks away from the official launch — expected to occur between September 8 and 12 — leaks and insiders have already begun to fill in the details of what could be Apple’s most durable iPhones yet.

Display Upgrade Reserved for Pro Models
The new display coating which brings together scratch resistance and anti-reflective properties, will reportedly be exclusive to the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, setting them apart from the responsibly-priced base model iPhones. The new coating could make it far more usable outdoors by reducing glare and potentially improving durability beyond the Ceramic Shield that has been used in iPhones since the iPhone 12 series.

Apple’s iPhones have a fingerprint-resistant oleophobic layer and Ceramic Shield glass, but they don’t have an anti-reflective coating, although Apple uses that on iPads and MacBooks. If Apple does add this feature, it will be the first time they integrated it into a smartphone, which would position the company more competitively against Samsung, which already uses Gorilla Glass Armor with anti-reflective properties on flagship devices.

Manufacturing Back on Track
According to MacRumors, Apple’s suppliers are now achieving “excellent production yields” for this new glass technology, allowing for mass production. This is a change from earlier reports in April that stated that Apple scrapped the idea after prior manufacturing problems. Those problems seem to be resolved now and may allow this display technology to actually be used in the final product.

Design and Specs…more than a display upgrade
Apart from the changes to the display, the iPhone 17 Air is additionally said to have a Titanium frame, and the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max could see Aluminum frames. Under the hood, the Pro variants will be fitted with the next-gen A19 Pro SoC with 12GB RAM, while the base variants may house an A19 SoC and 8GB RAM.

If these things leak out are correct, not only will the iPhone 17 Pro lineup look better, but feel more premium and would’ve added some ruggedness with a more immersive display benefit, if you are in bright conditions.

As Apple prepares for its next major hardware launch, the iPhone 17 Pro series is expected to bolster Apple’s stance with a powerful display upgrade, soaring to heights in smartphone capacity and durability.
