iPhone Showing ‘Slow Charger’? Here’s the Solution

iPhone Showing ‘Slow Charger’? Here’s the Solution

On September 15, Apple released the iOS 16 update. The most notable change is the new Liquid Glass design, but there is also a new charging notification that many customers have noted. It is a ‘Slow Charger’ warning message. This message only triggers with some of the chargers.

What Triggers The Warning?

This message is triggered by older USB-A to USB-C charging cables, which generally charge at less than 20W of power. There is no warning with Apple’s own chargers or any modern USB-C to USB-C chargers. Basically, the phone is simply telling you that it is getting a slow charging power source.

Is This A Real Issue?

This warning is not something to be concerned about. It does not damage your iPhone battery, in fact, a slow charge can actually be better for battery health because it causes less heat during the charging cycle. Heat is damaging to battery health in the long run.

When Slow Charging Is Fine

Overnight charging sessions are a perfect time to slow charge your phone. You can leave your phone plugged into the charger while you are sleeping, which gives it plenty of time to get a full charge. Whenever you have the opportunity to conserve battery health, it makes sense to take advantage. There is no need to purchase a new charger, your current charger will suffice.

When You Need A Faster Charger

There may be occasions where you must have a faster charger. An excellent example is before leaving the house for a short charging time. In this instance, a charger that is slow would be aggravating. In this case, you should now be using a power adapter that is at least 20W. Your charging speed will significantly hapen.

Recommended Chargers For You

Apple also sells an official 20W USB-C power adapter. For iPhone 16 or earlier models, this will work ideal. For the new iPhone 17 series, research for a 40W Charging Adapter. Check for products that are ‘Made for iPhone;’. This means these accessories can safely be used and fully compatible with your device.

New iOS 26 Charging Features

The update also displayed the time to reach 80% charged power. This feature may assist users in maintaining their charging routine. You can also set a maximum charging limit of 80% or 95%. There is Optimized Charging, this stages the charging process in order to help maintain battery life.
