Oversleeping will be increasingly difficult with iOS 26. The alarm interface currently has an issue with two large buttons, and most users accidentally tap the “Stop” button. This completely disables the alarm sound, leading to oversleeping and missed meetings. Apple is correcting this annoying issue.
The iOS 26 alarm has a fairly simple arrangement, with a very prominent “Snooze” button, and a very prominent “Stop” button. The buttons are large and easily tappable, and a person who has just awakened to a sound-alarm is likely to either be unaware of which button has been tapped, or to accidentally tap the wrong button. If the user taps “Stop,” the alarm will turn off completely, and that small mistake can utterly destroy your morning schedule.
The most recent beta software from Apple makes a very significant change to the process. It takes the traditional “Stop” button away completely. You must now do a sliding motion for your alarm. You swipe from the left side of the screen, all the way to the other side of the screen, on the right. During this whole process, the alarm keeps ringing until you swipe all the way to the right side of the screen. This motion takes purposeful movement on your part.
Apple itself created this issue with the iOS 26. Apple made the buttons larger and easier to tap, which led to us accidentally tapping the alarm button we do not want to tap. Users probably noted how iOS 26 led them to oversleep and miss an appointment, and the fix is likely in response to that. It intends to offer a more dependable waking experience.
The new feature is currently being tested as part of the iOS 26.1 beta 2 release. Right now, only those in the beta program can test the feature as Apple has yet to put forth its finalized public release. The company may still be tweaking the user experience. Sliding requires a little more active engagement in stopping the alarm compared to just tapping a button.
