Meta and Oakley’s Smart Glasses: On Monday, Meta announced its collaboration with Oakley, a leading manufacturer of athletic performance gear. They introduced the partnership as “Oakley Meta,” aiming to develop a new generation of smart glasses likely designed for athletes and bikers. Following the launches of Ray-Ban Stories in 2021 and Ray-Ban Meta Glasses in 2023, Meta and Luxottica, a division of the Italian eyewear giant, are now set to release their third smart eyewear product under this new partnership.

Meta Oakley Glasses:

Meta used the new Instagram account “@oakleymeta” to promote its collaboration with Oakley. The company shared a post titled, “The next evolution is coming on June 20,” without revealing any further details. While specifics remain unclear, the teaser likely hints at a successor to the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses, which reports earlier this year suggested was in development. In January, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported that Meta was expanding its smart eyewear technology to other brands under the Luxottica Group SA umbrella.

Supernova 2: 

Reports suggest that Meta will name the next version of its smart glasses “Supernova 2.” The design reportedly draws inspiration from the Oakley Sphaera, the company’s multisport sunglasses. Unlike the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses, which serve general use, Meta may target bikers and other athletes with this new model.

Sources say the camera’s placement will undergo a major change. The Oakley Meta Glasses will likely feature a lens positioned at the center of the frame. In contrast, the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses place the camera on the left side. This new placement could alter the point-of-view (PoV) in videos recorded through the glasses. Meta has not yet released details about the design, specifications, or official renders. However, the company is expected to reveal more on June 20.
