Xiaomi has announced that many of its devices won’t receive the Android 16 update and will only number Android 15 as its final major update with HyperOS 3. This number includes many popular devices from Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO.
HyperOS 3 will be built off Android 15 and has plenty of upgrades. Users will see an improved user interface, comprehensive animations, and new control centre editor. The update will also contain design layouts and styling inspired by Apple’s liquid glass theme. The rollout of HyperOS 3 should be seen in September of 2025.
Industry Standard Management Practice
This is not surprising given industry standards. The vast majority of Android phone companies will support phones only for limited time period and then shift focus to newer better options.
Xiaomi will now only concentrate on improving features in the supported phones. These older devices will still receive software updates for security patches for an extended period of time.
Users with these model devices should not expect to receive Android 16. they will have gotten their last major feature update with HyperOS 3. To receive newer versions of Android, users will have to upgrade their devices!
