Nokia is set to release a new rugged feature phone, the second generation after the original 800 Tough launched in 2019. It should be out relatively soon.
This information was sharedby a reliable leaker on X. The second generation phone is coming six years after its predecessor. The device will be made by HMD Global. The rugged phone series is being revived by HMD Global.
The new model will swap out the microUSB port for a USB Type-C port. The software has been raised to KaiOS 3.1. This is a natural upgrade from KaiOS 2.5.2.
The renders showed a very similar design to the previous version. The back panel will have a single camera sensor and the sensor will have an LED flash beside it. The back panel will have a speaker grill on the back as well.
The new phone will likely carry an IP68 rating, which protects water and ingress. The rugged phone may also come with MIL-STD-810G certification which certifies it can withstand drops and shocks.
In 2019 there was a 2.4 inch TFT screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 205 chipset and 512 MB of RAM, and a simple 2MP rear camera.
It will keep the rugged quality these types of phones are known for, and will likely include necessary apps like WhatsApp. Long-lasting battery life is also one of the key features of this product. The design will contain a focus on durability with a strong grip.
