OpenAI has launched a novel social video application called Sora, which provides iPhone users in the United States and Canada with access to AI-driven video creation capabilities.
At present, the app is only available through an invite-only system for users, specifically for individuals invited to early access, which in turn gets four additional invitiations to invite friends.
Android users need to be patient as OpenAI has not announced a timeline for their launch on any other devices.
Instead of looking like TikTok or Instagram Reels or something appealing at the moment, Sora focuses solely on AI-generated videos.
You first record a short clip called a “cameo.” After recording, you can share the cameo with friends or the community, who can then create a new AI-generated video using your cameo.
The owner of the cameo is always a co-owner of the video generated from it and can delete their cameo or revoke access to it, giving the user full control.
Using OpenAI’s Sora 2 model, Sora will generate new video clips. The app allows for creative collaboration and sharing by securely allowing friends to appear in each other’s videos with their permission and safety. Every video clip is labeled as AI-generated clips, and the messaging oat form will say “This video content is generated
by AI and is not completely authentic”.
You won’t be able to use Sora without an invite code. Here’s how to begin the process:
1. Download the Sora app from the Apple App Store.
2. Sign in using your ChatGPT account or select one of the other options.
3. Click “Notify me when access opens.”
4. Allow Sora to send you push notifications in order to stay updated once you eventually gain access.
During this initial rollout stage, OpenAI is giving their paying Pro subscribers priority access. Invite codes are slowly rolling out after the app’s launch.
After you get your code, you can sign up for your new Sora account and begin exploring AI video generation. Each new user receives four invite codes they can then share with their friends to help the community grow even faster and provide a unique account early on! You will be able to access Sora through the app and web after you have signed up.
