This iPhone Model Tops Sales In India, New Report Reveals

Apple is set to launch new iPhones in the near future. A recent report from Croma explores iPhone user preferences among its Indian user group. The report investigates both brand loyalty and broad buying trends from September 2024 to August 2025. The report was conducted by Tata Group’s retail company, Croma.

Base Models Are the Best Sellers

Indian users prefer base models of iPhones. According to the report, these models comprise 86% of iPhone sales. Only 14% of sales go to Pro models. Users prefer the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro, and the iPhone 16e. Size does matter. Smaller iPhones offer more appeal.

Only 12.5% of users purchase iPhones that are 16 Plus or Pro Max size. Smaller iPhones better meet the daily demands of Indian users. Indian Users have clearly stated that they personally value function over screen size.

128GB Storage Preferred

Storage is another matter simply based on cost considerations. Most users purchase the 128GB option (50%, but it accounts for a third of the total sales).

The 256GB model is next at 24.4%….512GB or 1TB solutions add significant costs to storage as only 1% of users buy it. Indian users value economic storage when using their smartphone for everyday applications.

Black Color is the Favorite

Color choice illustrates people. Black is the favorite option for preferred color with a 26.2% sales rate; second is blue (23.8%), and third was white (20.2%). This means Indian users preferred classic and more quiet color choices over vibrant or bold color choices.

Durable Brand Loyalty

Apple has strong brand loyalty in India. One in five purchasers swap old iPhones. They swap for an upgrade because they trust Apple’s quality. Users stay in the Apple ecosystem because they like the brand’s familiarity and reliability. Trade it affords the user an opportunity to upgrade while keeping it a more economical option.

Why It Matters

Croma’s survey is an important look into the Indian iPhone buyer. The prevailing base model of iPhone sales is skewed by both affordability and practical user needs. Smaller screen size & 128 GB storage are practical for Indian users. The data suggests that black is also still the favored option.

Croma’s report is ultimately helpful in the sense of understanding the priorities of iPhone users and cues to Apple and competitors as to the types of offerings that must be made in order to offer value and reliability to Indian users. Also, affordable price positions will ultimately be seen to draw in the largest user base.

What Now for Indians and the iPhone

Apple’s offering will be a reflection of this base focused model. Users in India are now used to expecting phones that are practical and on a “lower” budget. Competitors such as Samsung and OnePlus must also take note of this developing user expectation for cameras and displays that they offer.

The study looking by Croma offers good insight into where the future trends may be in this space. I am pretty confident that Indian customers will continue to gravitate towards the base model devices.
