Competition is brewing in the foldable smartphone arena in India thanks to Vivo’s freshly launched X Fold 5, which was previously teased in August 2023. It’s now on par with Samsung’s recently launched Galaxy Z Fold 7, and with Google’s Pixel Fold 9 Pro (previously known as the Pixel Fold), and certainly pushes the envelope on what phone manufacturers can bring to customers with premium foldable technology designed for productivity, performance, and spectacular design.

Price Comparison
The Vivo X Fold 5 retails for ₹1,49,999 for the 512GB storage and 16GB RAM version.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 retails for ₹1,74,999 for the 12GB/256GB variant, ₹1,86,999 for 512GB, and also has a top-end model for ₹2,10,999 for 16GB/1TB.
The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold is the lowest price of the three, costing ₹1,29,999 for 256GB storage and 16GB RAM (available under Flipkart).

 

Display Technology
Vivo X Fold 5 has a massive 8.03 inch AMOLED inner display with a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 4500 nits. The exterior display is a 6.53 inch AMOLED cover screen with up to 4500 nit brightness and a refresh rate of 120 Hz.
The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is equipped with an 8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X main display with a resolution of 1856×2160 and peak brightness of 2600 nits. Its cover display is 6.5 inches, with a 21:9 aspect ratio and Full HD+ resolution.

Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold features an 8-inch LTPO OLED inner display and a 6.3-inch outer display, both operable at 120Hz, with a peak brightness of 2700nits.

Performance and Chipsets
Vivo X Fold 5 – Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 with Adreno 750 GPU.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 – Snapdragon 8 Elite OC.
Google – Tensor G4 with Titan M2 security chip with heavy focus on privacy and AI.

 

RAM and Storage
Vivo X Fold 5 can go up to 16GB RAM and 512GB UFS 4.1.
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 provides choices of 12GB or 16GB of RAM and storage choices of 256GB to 1TB.
Google – one choice 16GB RAM and 256GB of storage.

Camera Layout
Vivo X Fold 5 – It has three 50MP rear cameras (main, ultra-wide and telephoto 3x). It also has dual 20MP front cameras.
Samsung Z Fold 7 – 200MP main camera, 12MP ultra-wide and 10MP telephoto lens. It comes with dual 10MP front cameras.
Google – Taylor 9 Pro Fold cameras consists of a 48MP with wide, a 10.5MP ultra wide and a 10.8MP telephoto lens with two 10MP front cameras.

 

Battery and Charging
Vivo wins the competition with their 6000mAh battery with 80W fast charging.
Samsung follows that with a 4400mAh battery with 25W charging.
Pixel offers 4650mAh balanced battery with fast but not as fast charging (45W).

 

Connectivity & OS
Vivo supports Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.4, GPS, OTG, USB-C 3.2.
Samsung only differentiates with Wi-Fi 7 and NFC.
Pixel gave a similar offering including Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, GPS, USB 3.2 Type-C.

All three foldable phones run the latest versions of Android, Vivo on Android 15 (Funtouch OS 15), Samsung on Android 16 (One UI 8), Pixel on pure Android 16.
