Voting by Mobile App: Bihar has taken a revolutionary step in the history of Indian elections. For the first time in the country, it has taken a historic decision by providing the opportunity to use a mobile phone app to vote in municipal elections. This innovative initiative was launched with the aim of making the electoral process easier by using technology.
The Election Commission of India announced on Friday that for the first time in the country, voters will be able to vote through a mobile app in the elections to six municipal councils in three districts of the state on Saturday. State Election Commissioner Deepak Prasad revealed that voting can be done through mobile phones in these elections. According to the details announced by the State Election Commission.
Voters can exercise their right to vote through a special mobile app called “e-SECBHR”. Currently, this app is available on Android phones. Officials are hopeful that it will be very beneficial especially for voters from weaker sections like the elderly and disabled. The State Election Commission said that about 10,000 voters have already come forward to register to vote through this app.
Officials have made it clear that security and transparency have been given top priority in the e-voting process. It was revealed that the voter identification process will be robust with multi-level security protocols. Voters will have to register on the app using their Aadhaar number, mobile number and other identification details. The voter verification process will be very strict, the Election Commission said, adding that this will ensure that there is no possibility of vote misuse.
Alternative arrangements have also been made for those who do not have mobile phones. Such people can also register their votes through the State Election Commission website. However, experts believe that if voting through this mobile app is successful in Bihar, it will pave the way for other states in the country to follow the same system. Analysts say that this could mark the beginning of a digital revolution in India’s democratic system. These elections will not only register votes, but also serve as a guide to how technology can be used effectively in the electoral process.
