WhatsApp or Arattai: Which App Works Better?

WhatsApp or Arattai: Arattai, which is developed by Zoho Corporation in India, is a messaging application. This app has a VoIP tool which works across different platforms and supports texting, voice messaging, audio and video calls, and also sharing images, videos, and documents. This app is completely similar to WhatsApp, which has almost the same features right now. Initially, this app was launched in early 2021, and this is a complete homegrown app that can reduce the problems of data breaches or privacy issues. Let’s now understand what is so special about Arattai:

Special Features of Arattai:
Arattai is a completely homegrown app in India that focuses on privacy and the data of its users. According to the company’s reports, all the data is stored in Zoho’s own infrastructure. They are not dependent on external cloud providers, where data leaks can easily happen.

WhatsApp, which is also a similar platform created by Brian Acton and Jan Koum in 2009, is one of the biggest players in this industry. WhatsApp also allows users to send chats, voice messages, and media, make calls, utilize groups, view statuses, and more.

Let us now understand the features, privacy and security, user demographics and reach, performance and stability, and in the end, let’s understand which app is best suited for which user.

WhatsApp vs Arattai: Which Messaging App Works Better?
WhatsApp:

1. WhatsApp is a US-based company that is run by Meta. WhatsApp is now a powerful platform with almost 3.1 billion users around the world. From this, around 535 million users are from India. This app is now one of the most powerful platforms which is acquired by Meta in 2014.

2. WhatsApp offers end-to-end encryption for all messages, calls, and even for sharing images, videos, and documents. They ensure user privacy, and the app is also completely user-friendly. This app supports file sharing up to 2GB and group chats with up to 1,024 members.

For the businesses that are going to be on WhatsApp, they are going to benefit from WhatsApp Business API with features from catalogues, automated messages, and payment options.

3. WhatsApp also integrates Meta AI features, offering chat themes, image generation, and smart responses. It allows multi-device access, voice calls with up to 32 participants, and status updates lasting 24 hours.

4. However, WhatsApp’s reliance on global data servers and Meta’s data-driven advertising model have raised privacy concerns. Despite this, the app remains a top choice for users seeking a feature-rich and globally connected platform.

Arattai:
1. Developed by Zoho Corporation in Chennai, Arattai is an India-first messaging platform launched in January 2021. Designed for low-bandwidth networks and privacy-conscious users, Arattai has gained momentum with around 10.5 million daily active users as of late 2023.

2. Arattai’s data is stored entirely on Indian servers, complying with local data protection norms. The app remains ad-free, with no data monetization, and is endorsed by Indian government initiatives. It allows file sharing up to 1GB and supports group chats of up to 1,000 members.

3. While Arattai currently offers end-to-end encryption only for individual calls, it’s optimized for low-end devices and slower internet connections. Its status feature lasts up to 72 hours, and it integrates with Zoho’s ecosystem for encrypted backup and productivity tools.

4. Although it lacks AI features and global scale, Arattai is carving a niche as a privacy-first, Indian alternative to WhatsApp, focusing on security, simplicity, and local language support.
