The life of Chatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the courageous son of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, is the inspiration for “Chhaava.” The film, which is based on Shivaji Sawant’s Marathi novel of the same name, follows Sambhaji as he fights to protect his realm from the constant onslaught of Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. As Sambhaji, Vicky Kaushal has given a strong performance, demonstrating his courage and dedication to Swarajya (self-rule). The “National Crush,” Rashmika Mandanna, plays Sambhaji’s wife, Yesubai Bhonsale, while Akshaye Khanna plays Aurangzeb with terrifying intensity.

The narrative, which takes place in 17th-century India, follows Sambhaji’s transformation from a warrior prince to a fearless monarch who fights both inside and outside of his realm. The movie is jam-packed with intense action scenes, poignant scenes, and political intrigue.
Important parts are also played by Divya Dutta, Diana Penty, and Vineet Kumar Singh as Kavi Kalash, Sambhaji’s devotee.
Among the highest-grossing Indian films of 2025 is this one. ‘Chhaava’ had made an astounding Rs 459.50 crore in India and more than Rs 566.50 crore globally by the 18th day.
It is on track to crack the lifetime collections of movies like Dhoom 3″ and Padmaavat and is currently among the top 25 highest-grossing Indian films. Due to its success, the movie is now on par with Ranbir Kapoor’s Animal, which brought in over Rs 900 crore worldwide.
