Deepika Padukone: Once again the pan-Indian mega budget Kalki 2898 AD from director Nag Ashwin is in the limelight, with controversies. Critics have taken to social media to decry that Deepika Padukone’s name had been scrubbed from the credits in the OTT version of the film.
Previously, producers Vyjayanthi Movies had publicly confirmed Padukone would not be reprising her role in the sequel to the sci-fi epic, ‘Kalki 2’. Days later, the removal of her credits in the streaming release has angered fans and the film community, and professionalism has been called into question.
In ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, Deepika had portrayed the role of Sumathi, with significant stakes and emotional weight. Many feel it is “unfair and very unprofessional” to disregard her on-screen contribution after her significant work commitments to the production.
According to reports, Deepika limiting her working hours to eight per day might have created some tension with the production team. Sources claim that her limited availability affected schedules for shooting and left her with a lesser screen presence in the sequel.
“Many male superstars have been working only eight hours a day for years, and no one questions them. I don’t want to name anyone, but this is not a new practice. People work Monday to Friday and take weekends off; yet it never becomes a headline.”
Meanwhile, Deepika has begun another project, King, opposite Shah Rukh Khan. The film has already created tons of buzz among the fans, making another grand reunion of the successful Pathaan duo.
Reportedly, the film will have a huge ensemble cast including Abhishek Bachchan, Anil Kapoor, Rani Mukerji, Jackie Shroff, Arshad Warsi, and Abhay Verma.
