Deepika Padukone Demanded: Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone is in the news again. This time not for a new role she’s going to play, but because apparently, she walked away from one. Recent media reports suggest that the actress was in negotiations to act opposite Prabhas in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s new film Spirit, but her remuneration demands supposedly resulted in a breakdown.
Hefty Remuneration and Profit Share Request
Trends report that Deepika Padukone demanded a fee of ₹25 crore for the 35-day shooting schedule. Beyond this, she also demanded a 10% stake in the film’s net profits. This pay system is not novel in the industry, particularly among leading actors, but it seems that the producers were not ready to honor both requests.
If agreed to, this would have placed her amongst the top-earning female Indian cinema actors, on par with male peers who tend to receive profit-sharing packages combined with hefty advance fees.
Professional Demands Raise Eyebrows
Apart from her money demands, Deepika has allegedly made an 8-hour shoot cap per day a condition. A provision she’s made a point of including in her contracts to ensure work-life balance, particularly after becoming a mother. While some commend her for drawing healthy boundaries at work, others in the industry consider such conditions difficult to meet for big-budget, tight-shed projects like Spirit.
This isn’t the first time such negotiations have drawn attention. She also reportedly exited Kalki 2898 AD for similar reasons before rejoining the project later.
Producers and Casting Update
After the negotiations fell through, the producers of Spirit are now said to be in discussions with other actresses to play the role. Directed by Kabir Singh and Animal director Sandeep Reddy Vanga. The film is still one of the most eagerly awaited Indian movies because of Prabhas’ pan-India popularity and Vanga’s successful storytelling.
